Pader Court Holds Plea Bargaining Session at Kinene Prison

On Thursday April 4,2024, HW Ongwee Stanislaus Okello, Magistrate Grade I, Pader Chief Magistrates Court held a one-day session at Kinene Government Prison and concluded 20Criminal Cases. 

The cases which were concluded through Plea Bargaining consisted of; Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm, Doing Grievous Harm, Indecent Assault, Domestic Violence, Theft, Burglary, Criminal Tresspass and Common Nuisance. Of these, 15 were sentenced to Imprisonment and five were given Community Service.

The Officer in Charge of the Prison, Mr Nantalya Alex, thanked the Magistrate for taking justice services closer to accused persons. He noted that the Prison which has a capacity of 45 currently has 236 inmates.

Participating in the session; Senior Resident State Attorney Muzige Amuza, Ms Atim Prisca of Uganda Law Society Legal Aid Clinic. 

The Magistrate will be conducting a similar session on next week where 15 cases will be handled.
